The 23 Algarve on the beach Portugal’s Heart-Stirring Shore

If there is a secret Taj Mahal of beaches in the world… it is the Algarve, hidden in the south of Portugal.Golden sand, azure sea, and limestone mountains that rise and fall along the sea—the Algarve is a region where the sea, mountains, and wind all come together to create a living visual story.
Visitors here don’t just go to the beach…

Here, you can peer over the cliffs and watch the sea roar below, the waves crash against the rocks, and the sun slowly sink into the blue layers.

Whether you are a “beach bomb” soaking up the sun from head to toe…
or a traveler wandering along the mountain paths…
The Algarve offers every traveler its own unique magic

Why is the Algarve so special?

The beaches are nestled between vertical limestone cliffs.

In most places, the sea is absolutely blue—with a turquoise shimmer.

Each beach has its own personality: sometimes powerful waves, sometimes complete tranquility, sometimes hidden caves, sometimes natural entrances between rocks.

The entire area is full of hiking trails that run along the coast—“as if walking on the ocean.”

 Where are these beaches?

Most of the Algarve’s beaches are not too far from each other.
You can visit three to five beaches in one day if you want—provided you can stand the breathtaking scenery!

If you’re looking for a place to stop, Sagres, Lagos, and Albufeira are three great base points.
If you have a car, then one day = one adventure.

1. Praia de Odeceixe — The meeting point of the river and the sea

This is the beach where the river meets the sea. Dense greenery, changing landforms, and sometimes islands, sometimes land, with the tides.
What to do:

Surfing

Relaxation

And if you want complete freedom, nearby Praia de Adegas is famous for its natural sunbathing.

2. Praia do Amado — Surfers’ haven

If you’re a surfing enthusiast, waves await you at this beach.
The cliffs, open sea and constant roaring waves make it a world apart.

3. Praia do Castelejo — A haven of peace

High black cliffs, a long coastline and few crowds—both surfers and solitude seekers are happy here.

4. Praia da Ponta Ruiva — A secret beach

Finding this place is an adventure in itself!
If you find it, the reward: golden cliffs, blue sea and a completely silent atmosphere.

5. Praia do Telheiro — Vast and incredibly beautiful
The beach here is so large that people rarely appear.
The cliffs also open up for hiking trails.

6. Praia do Beliche — Deep blue sea

Surfing enthusiasts will definitely come, but even sunbathers can have a lot of heavenly moments.

7. Praia do Tonel — Beach of strong waves

Long strip, open sea, strong waves—a blessing for surfers, caution for weak swimmers.

8. Praia da Mareta — Gift of the sea in the middle of the city

Located in the heart of Sagres, with full facilities. The view of the sunset is breathtaking.

9. Praia do Martinhal — Empty, paradise-like beach

Strange thing: visible to everyone, but still often empty!
You can hear the sounds of peace here. Sometimes the sea brings some moss or garbage, but the view is still enchanting.

10. Praia das Furnas — The beach you might see alone

The path is difficult, but when you arrive, it will seem like the whole beach is yours alone.
There is also a magnificent cave here whose image will take your breath away.

11. Praia da Luz — The sea in the middle of the village

Facilities, clear water, soft sand, and hiking trails—the complete package.

12. Porto Mós — Wind sports and sweeping views

Less crowds due to the strong winds—surfing, bodyboarding, and total relaxation.

13. Praia do Camilo — Small but dreamy beach

A long wooden staircase leads down and you step into a painting.
It’s a very small beach—it fills up quickly, but the view… is breathtaking.

14. Praia de Dona Ana — Calm, soft sand, blue water

Said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve.
The stairs are steep, but the rewards are great.

15. Praia dos Três Irmãos — The story of the three stones

Small coves, golden cliffs, beautiful caves, and natural pathways.

16. Praia de Carvoeiro — A mix of village, mountains and sea

A fishing village in the background, cliffs on the sides, and the blue ocean in front—it’s the whole picture card.

17. Praia da Carvalho — Stairs inside a cave

An Indiana Jones feel!
A hole in the ground, a rocky staircase inside, and finally the sea.
Perfect for the adventurous.

18. Praia da Marinha — Portugal’s most famous beach

Two strange natural stone arches, golden sand, and endless crowds.
Go early in the morning if you want fewer crowds.

19. Galé, Coelha, Albufeira, Falesia

These four beaches are well-maintained, large, and great for families.
Falesia has 6 kilometers of orange cliffs—truly incredible.

20. Algar de Benagil — The Cave That Surprised the World

The famous Benagil Cave—a natural cathedral with a sun circle shining through its roof.
You can only get there by boat/kayak.
Trying to swim is dangerous, accidents have often occurred.

21. Praia de Albufeira

A perfect typical tourist beach, if that’s your thing, awaits you at Peneco or Albufeira Beach. Located in the center of Albufeira and surrounded by whitewashed structures above a cliff is a sandy and tame beach to play in. The promenade features plenty of things to do with shops and eateries.

It’s so long, they have several names for it depending on where on the beach you’re located.

22. Praia da Falesia

Falesia lagbhag 6 km lambi  khoobsurat  saahil-rehaish hai jiske  dono taraf  buland,  rangeen  chattanen hain. Yeh saahil bohot mashhoor hai, khaas taur par garmiyon mein, is liye yahan bheed bhi rehti hai. Narangi rang ki chattanen aur haryali se bhare pine darakhton ka mel is jaga ko aur bhi haseen banata hai.

23. Algar de Benagil

Benagil ka naam aap ne zaroor suna hoga kyunki is ki tasveeren har jaga dikhayi deti hain.

Conclusion

The Algarve’s beaches are places where the sea is not just water, but a feeling, a scene and a peace. Each beach is completely different in its shape, mood and beauty—somewhere the cliffs are towering, somewhere the waves are powerful, somewhere miles of silent golden sand tracks, and somewhere the sun is hidden in caves.

Whether the traveler is a surfer, a hiker, or someone who just wants to lie in the sun and forget about the world—the Algarve has something for everyone. More information Visit my site Travel  With Hubby.
